Course Overview
The Aerospace Engineering MEng is a four-year integrated Masters degree based at the University of Brighton's Moulsecoomb campus. Building on the foundations of the BEng programme, this degree adds a full year of Masters-level study, developing your advanced technical understanding alongside the management and leadership skills needed to progress to the highest levels of the engineering profession.
Accredited by three of the UK's most respected engineering bodies — the Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS), the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) — and ranked 4th in the UK for aerospace engineering courses by the Guardian University Guide 2026, this is one of the most prestigious aerospace engineering degrees available in the UK.
What You Will Study
You will learn alongside a team of internationally recognised researchers and take part in exciting, challenging projects that arise directly from and contribute to their ongoing research. Projects include rocket cars, fighting robots, and the international Engineering Without Borders challenge — giving you practical experience that goes far beyond the classroom.
Throughout the programme you will have access to specialist facilities including flight and car simulators, a wind tunnel, prototyping labs, CNC machines, and robotics and VR labs. The student-led Sustainable Technology and Engineering Projects (STEP) Lab gives you the opportunity to work on real energy challenges, and professional engineers visit regularly to share their industry experience through guest lectures.
Placement Year
The programme includes an optional placement year in Year 3, extending the degree to five years. This gives you 12 months of professional industry experience before returning to complete your Masters-level final year — significantly strengthening your employability and professional profile on graduation.
Your Career as an Engineer
On successful completion of this degree, you will be eligible to apply for Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status, and will have the full academic qualifications required to progress to Chartered Engineer (CEng) status — the highest professional engineering qualification in the UK — subject to completing the required training and work experience.
Professional accreditation from RAeS, IMechE, and IET means your qualification is recognised by employers in the UK and internationally, including countries that are signatories to international engineering accords. Some employers recruit preferentially from accredited degrees, making this qualification a significant advantage in a competitive job market.
